TONIGHT’S SUNSET
All of the pictures in the past several weeks have been so somber and bleak, winter is like that. This sunset on the bay was a welcome sight. Don’t forget to click on the picture to fill the screen so you can see the geese getting into formation. That’s a good sign …isn’t it!

Skittish Canvasbacks
I’ve tried sneaking up on them to take a picture, and as soon as I start walking towards them they swim away. You will just have to take my word that there are twice as many ducks in the pond today as there were in the first picture I posted. They stay in the pond! Mallards and the Canadas forage on land. Those Canadas have eaten every blade of grass and every little ground cover we planted on the Harbour Drive side of the pond. The next time we plant in this area we will have to stake off the area to keep out the geese. That worked for the shoreline on Oyster Drive. Yes, it looks tacky….but if it works lets give it a try.

TECHNO SAVY SNOWMAN
I wonder what kind of music this snowman prefers?
This snow is in Crofton, Maryland. If it had been colder here (Ocean City, Maryland) we probably would have had some accumulation because at one point the snowflakes were a big as dessert plates. When I looked out the window I thought they were sheets of paper flying about. That lasted only a few minutes.

YAY! THE DUCKS ARE BACK!
This morning at sunrise, yes, sunrise I woke up to all of this squawking and honking out on the pond. The pond had large patches no longer frozen and our feathered friends were finally able to go for a swim, dive and get some food. Something in the line of food must be in that pond this time of year, why else would they return every year?
They were a delight to watch, they would dive down and come up splashing the water with their wings. They really looked like they were enjoying themselves. I didn’t disturb their playtime by rushing out with my camera to take their picture….I did that just before the sun started to set.
It was so nice to able to go for a walk with Franki. The poor little thing hasn’t been walked in such a long time that she was exhausted when we came back. She stretched out on the sofa, on her back with all four feet in the air and slept that way for an hour. I promised her that as long as the temperatures didn’t go any lower than today’s I would walk her everyday. YUP!

ANOTHER WEATHER REPORT
Yesterday we had a heat wave with the temperatures rising to 34 degrees; today the thermometer on my porch says 23. I now know what that song’s lyrics mean when they say a whiter shade of pale, that’s me! I haven’t been for a walk around the pond for two and a half months now and I look like a ghost. I bundled up when I ventured out on the deck to take these pictures and believe me I didn’t stay out there a long time.
Oh, yes, about an hour ago we had a blizzard for about 20 minutes.
There are a few things I want to point out to you about the pictures: This was high tide; make a comparison with the low tide pictures.
Notice the swell under the pier.
Notice the planks broken loose. Not too many piers went without damage.
I’m happy to tell you I have my laptop's back from Apple all fixed. I’ll be able to download pictures for you faster. If it gets to at least 40 degrees I’ll take some pictures of all the ducks in the pond. I have to go outside to do that.

A COLD SUNSET ON AN ICE COVERED ASSAWOMAN BAY, MARYLAND. TEMPERATURE 29 DEGREES

Brrrrrr!
OK, Snowbirds these pictures should make you feel good about being someplace where the temperatures are above 29 degrees. We’re expecting a warming trend towards the end of the week when the temps may reach 34. The snow was only a light dusting the wind blew that away.
Notice the one picture shows a little patch of blue in the sky, not a dark cloud in the sky now.
I’m thinking of going someplace warm in January and February next year…someone else can give you weather reports.

LOW TIDE AND A FROZEN BAY
This is an unusual sight. I have never seen the tide this low. This will be a continuing story because I’m sure there will be changes as the tide changes. I will keep you posted as changes occur.

The View From a Bedroom Window
The Canvasbacks and Redheads are back. Add them to the Bald Eagle and our pond has become a birdwatcher’s dream. As cold as it is here, people have been walking along the pond all day today.
If the quality of the photo isn’t too good I apologize, my workhorse laptop is in for repairs after a bad download and I’m using a tiny iBook.
