ALGAE ON THE POND

Everyday on our walks around the pond we watched the algae start to spread. It started on the park side and as the warmer weather made itself felt it spread rapidly. None of the fountains or the aerators is functioning. The fountain closest to Harbour Drive has been removed for repairs. The other two fountain needed to be turned off and backwashed and turned back on. I’m hoping that Envirotech will be here today and get then running again.
That alga really spreads fast! In three days over half the pond was covered. Saturday night we had a storm that blew all the algae to the Bahia side of the pond. Today it is migrating back to the middle. The pictures were take Sunday, 27 April.
Some good news! Students from Mt. St. Joe in Baltimore will be doing their senior project and will be in our Coastal Bays area. Walkers Pond is scheduled for 8 May. Our good friends from Assateague will be providing us Spartina grasses again for our shoreline. We are fortunate to have Dr. Jesien, from the Maryland Coastal Bays Program guiding them in the planting. Stop by and thank these nice people for the work they are doing.
