RAKING IN THE ALGAE
People frequently ask about the depth of the pond, take a look at the pictures of the men from Envirotech pulling in the algae that is floating on the top of the pond. This end of the pond is the most shallow, growing deeper towards the Oyster shoreline.
They are using a long net with two handles pulling the blooms to shore. They check to make sure they throw back any fishes, especially Daphne. Next, they will apply chemicals to the pond to kill the rest of the blooms. They want to continue running water into the pond while this work is being done, then after the chemicals have done their job they will allow the water out into the bay via the outfall pipe. We all must pray that these chemicals do not have an adverse affect on our bay. Envirotech says they are safe enough to drink.
Notice the two fountains are working. Click on the picture of the fountain and look at all the small birds feeding on the algae. At first I didn't see them.
