I measured water levels at the pond today. The water level is 7 inches from
the top of the drain pipe (8 in to the top of the overflow grate). Most of
the plants are in 7 to 9 inches of water and the water has been this high
for most of the year. Many of the plants have died that we planted this
spring because of high water levels. I have advised that the water level
should have been lowered months ago. The plants can withstand inundation,
but the water level has been too high for too long. I agree the plants
should be in 0.25 to 2 in of water but it is apparent that the plants in
many areas are being stressed. It's a shame, lots of work went into putting
those plants in by volunteers. I recommend that at least by late February
the water levels be maintained at around the top of the drain pipe (the pipe
with locked valve). Thanks, roman
